Senator Durbin and others tried today to extend funding for TANF ECF, but was stopped. With 37 states utilizing this funding to put people in need of jobs to work, this legislation should be beyond partisan rhetoric.
Your Senator - whoever he or she may be - needs to hear from you to make sure this funding is extended to save hundreds of thousands of jobs around the country.
Name: Desiree Jackson
Employer: Collectors Training Institute
Job: Office Clerk
Desiree Jackson has successfully moved along a career pathway and taken care of her family despite the weak economy.
Five months ago, Desiree Jackson was hired by the Collectors Training Institute (CTI) as a Collector through the Put Illinois to Work program. Since then, Ms. Jackson has been promoted from a collector, to skip tracer, and finally to office clerk. She has not only been able to gain valuable job skills and training through her position with CTI, she has also been able to take care of her three children as a single mother. “I’m really getting nervous because it’s getting close to the end [of the program], and all I can do is keep applying. But so many people are not hiring. It takes so long for them to get back to you; it’s a hard market.”
